This is a shameless solicitation for a cause I feel very strongly about. If that's all you need to hear, feel free to hit the delete button now. Bye.Ok, I just read a book called Three Cups of Tea and now I have a new hero. His name is Greg Mortenson. Greg was a mountain climber who attempted K2 in Pakistan. After getting lost on the descent, he was taken in by villagers who, despite their abject poverty, opened their homes to him. He was touched by their hospitality and kindness and promised to repay them.
What they needed in their village was a school. The kids sat in the open, frigid air and practiced their multiplication tables in the dirt and waited for the days when a borrowed teacher would come to visit.
Greg came home, sold everything he had, wrote letters and worked miracles to find the money to build the school he promised. Since then, he's been in demand. Villages all over Pakistan have come to the big American for help. He's the only American many have seen and they love him. He does what he promises and schools are being built all over the country. This was before 9/11. Now, he works even harder and is building schools in Afghanistan as well.
Think about it. Name calling, finger pointing, bomb dropping hasn't been all that effective against the uneducated fanaticism that threatens us. Educating children, especially girls, has been the most effective weapon. Already, the kids graduating from the schools started eleven years ago are going on to study medicine so they can go back to help their villages.
This is just a highlight of the life of this remarkable man. Go to www.threecupsoftea.com and buy the book. Seven percent of all books purchased will go towards a girl's scholarship in Pakistan and Afghanistan. Read it. Send money. Then do it again next month. This is a cause that has real results and will effect the lives of your kids.
Go change the world. Do it now!

April 4th??? where are you? Do you not continue to think, dare to dream, yea, to write? I was thinking that I was remiss in following your wisdom and found the same old wisdom that was there the last time. Write on, my friend....write through the pain. write through the fog....write until your brain freezes! Your audience, your people need you! love Deborah
