How do you know when you're hearing God? It's not hard. When you have the Holy Spirit inside of you, He'll be talking to you a lot. You just have to recognize His voice. When God talks, there's a peace that comes with it. However, He does talk quietly and He's very easy to miss. If you get busy or angry, you won't hear a thing. You have to have your tuners on. I learned to pay attention even at work. Sometimes I'll feel a check to stop before sending an email or printing something. I'll take one last look at it and find an error to fix. If I pay attention, the Holy Spirit helps me catch a lot things. The other day, I did not. I created an email for my boss. I looked it over carefully several times, it looked good. I felt a check but I knew I already proofed it so I hit send. It went out to a client and was cc'd to my boss. He told me later that I sent the email out with no subject title. That is what the Holy Spirit was trying to get me to fix. I got in a hurry and didn't stop long enough to see it. Not His fault, He did try to tell me.
Sometimes we hear things and we're not sure that it's really God. If you've ever received a prophetic word and thought, "I got that as an image or an idea myself", then you know that you did hear from God. What did that feel like? Get used to how that felt and how it sounded. When you hear it again, pay attention. Ask God to confirm what you heard. Soon, you'll be able to tell God from your own thoughts and you can start a dialogue with Him. He really loves our conversation. You can talk to Him about anything and He'll talk right back. And don't be surprised if He gets really funny. He actually did create humor.
I can see Him now, sitting on the throne with a cell phone at His ear saying, "Can you hear me now? Can you hear me now?"
