Learning to Speak Good Christian

For some reason, Christians have learned to speak another language, a language they think other people understand, even Christians. I guess all kinds of groups come up with their own lingo, but there are some things that I hear Christians say that take some interpretation to comprehend. I am of the Just Say Things Clearly school of thought, so I'm bothered when archaic and unclear terminology is tossed around like everyone understands it. So let me help translate:

Don't give place to the devil- I heard a really great pastor use this recently. Now, I know that it's a phrase right out of the Bible, but I prefer using real words today. It means, do not agree with the devil. Don't acknowledge any power that the devil has, he doesn't deserve the recognition. Don't give him "a place" of consideration.

Purposed- Now, this is a real word, as a verb with an object. "He purposed in heart to change his life." But who talks like that? Isn't it more clear to say "He decided to change his life" ? It's OK to say decided. You'll still sound holy.

Whacked -This is a tongue-in-cheek term meaning that someone has been so fill with the Holy Spirit that they get goofy.

Drunk - See above.

On fire - This is somewhat dated terminology, but could still sound a little alarming. It means to be full of excitement and enthusiasm for God.

The church was on fire - See above, unless it's really on fire.

Blew up the house - When a church congregation has been whacked.

Tabernacled - This is a real word, though why it's used today is beyond me. The tabernacle in the Old Testament was a portable tent that housed the Holy of Holies until the temple was built. Today is used to mean a close communion with God. Probably better to say, "I felt the presence of God intimately", or words to that effect.

Soaking - This does not involve water. It implies resting in the Holy Spirit- not praying or asking for anything, just being in His presence.

Receiving/giving a word - Not just any word, this means that someone has heard prophetic encouragement from God. This is very personal to the individual receiving it, usually pertaining to something significant in his or her life. When someone comes out of church saying, "I got the best word today", it means that she heard from God in the sermon or through someone praying or ministering to her.

Ministering - That's a good one, too. To minister is to pray over someone in what ever way they need. It could be healing or counseling or encouragement. The person praying may not even know what the issues are that they're praying for, they are just being a conduit for God to touch someones life.

Churched - Kind of a weird word to mean someone who has grown-up in church, or who fully understands all the lingo.

I'm sure there are more words that I'm forgetting right now. I'll update the list as needed. Please feel free to add your own items in the comments.

I just don't like the idea of new people coming into the church and not understanding or feeling that they don't belong because they don't understand. I like the idea of using simple language. It's really very effective.
