When the Going is Good

Sometimes I think we need to be careful about what we wish for. Yes, when times are difficult, we wish life were better for us. We want to be free of frustrations, money problems, relationship issues, so we pray like crazy. The thorn in the flesh has a way of driving us to God for help.

But then what? If He helps us, do we continue to go to Him, just because we like Him? How easy it is for us to forget He did anything at all. Once our problems are gone, God is out of sight, out of mind - until Sunday, then we remember Him again. And honestly, we can be very thankful for what He has done, but we miss the greater blessing in pressing into Him when we don't have a need.

I don't think God ever gets tired of us going to Him for help. He told us to. Cast your burdens on Him, He said so. But imagine how much more He wants us to sit with Him and talk about the universe and the petunias that keep trying to bloom that the snails are eating. He loves our company, it's why we were created. We can never stop learning and being amazed at all the aspects of God that we discover.

If things are great right now, thank God. Thank Him for what He's done for you, then have a seat, He wants to listen and "commune". That's about sharing communications. Be still and listen. Don't do all the talking. If things are hard, do not hesitate to go to Him for help. Stop right now and ask for it. But give yourself some reminder to go to Him always, even when the problem gets solved.

Don't let the good times be the beginning of the bad times, of ignoring God.
