How many times have you been concerned about something and someone says, "Well, it's in God's hands." As if there was nothing we can do. Our hands are tied. With an attitude like that, our hands really are tied. The we've allowed the enemy to tie them, holding our arms out and standing nice and still. I recognize that often we don't understand why our prayers don't get answered, but I believe that our prayers are still doing something.
We're told to pray - by God. We're told many times in scripture. If we're not praying, then we're not being obedient. I believe that God does have a perfect will for us, but He wants to include us in making that happen. Yes, the events of this world are in His hands, but His is influenced by our prayers.
"The effectual, fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much." James 5:16. When we come into the family of God through the blood of Jesus, God the Father hears us as one of His children. We can ask Him anything. We may have a friend very sick, near death. Yes, that life is in God's hands, but I believe that God wants to heal and His protocol requires us to ask for that healing.
I think we let a lot of good slip away because we assume that everything is in God's hands and not ours. I think that we are responsible for those around us. We are responsible to pray and help and encourage. Our prayers matter. Whether we realize it or not, our prayers matter. Keep praying when you don't see results. Something is happening in the heavens. Something is happening inside you. Something is happening for good. It's in God's hands, but He's wrapped His arms around you and is holding your hands in His, so it's in your hands too.
