Be Holy

"For I am the Lord your God. You shall therefore consecrate yourselves, and you shall be holy; for I am holy." Leviticus 11:44
Not a suggestion. This is a command. Not just an Old Testament command, Peter quotes it as well - 1Peter 1:15.

I remember reading that in high school while I was memorizing scripture. I memorized it, but I didn't get it. I knew who was looking back in the mirror everyday. That person wasn't holy. I didn't know how to be holy, but I did memorize the scripture. Someday, when I got to heaven, I'd probably be holy.

The thing is though, the scripture says be holy! As in now! Many long years have passed since I first read that. Now I'm starting to get it. God looks at us through the blood of Christ. He actually does see us as holy. And He also knows about all of our warts, so we're not fooling Him. He still expects us to act holy. The good news is that we have the Holy Spirit to help us. He will help us be like Himself.

It's not an instant transition. It's a process and it does take directed thinking. To be holy, you need to be listening to the Holy Spirit and doing what He says. If He's holy, then the stuff that He does must be holy. If you look to Him, you'll be holy too.

Have you heard the study that you will become the person who you think the important people in your life want you to be? To be more specific, you will become the person who you think the most important person in your life wants you to be. You may need to read that again. If that person is God, you can become who He wants you to be now and you He will help you do it. And year after year, you will become more and more holy to God and will effect people around you. You'll still be you and you'll look back and see how God changed your life and that scripture will make perfect sense to you.
