...As A Little Child

I overheard two eighty-year-olds talking after church today. A little guy, maybe four years old ran up to one of them, almost knocking him over. The Grandpa, it was probably the Great Grandpa, turned to his friend and said, "It's hard to believe that we were once like that isn't it? Completely dependent. Completely carefree."

If only we were. Isn't that what God wants us to be like? "Whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven." (Mt. 18:4) If only we really were completely dependent on God and completely carefree, without any worries or concerns. How much fun we would have. How much more we could do. How much more God could show us. Why do we have to think through everything? Yes, I know we have obligations and jobs, but Jesus wouldn't have said what He did if it weren't possible for us to be that way. He means it when He says that we should be as a little child. We get so familiar with most scripture that we forget that He really means it.

The Holy Spirit is our Helper. Ask Him what that means for you. What do you need to let go of and stop worrying about? Ask Him how you can be as a little child and still be the adult that you are with your job and kids to take care of. When you stop and think about being a kid again, there's a little movie that runs in the back of your mind, the feeling of being carefree and having fun. It's there. Try it out. Take it for a spin. Have some fun with it. You're supposed to.
